Information Restaurant Sumosan, in Courchevel 1850
Description
Renowned Japanese restaurant Sumosan launches first Alpine site
within Six Senses Residences Courchevel
Renowned Japanese restaurant Sumosan will open its first Alpine outpost at the heart of
Courchevel 1850 within Six Senses Residences Courchevel in mid December. Offering its
signature sushi and contemporary Japanese dishes, the restaurant and bar will provide a
welcome antidote to the traditional fondue and raclette, with dishes exclusive to the new site.
Owned by Janina Wolkow, Sumosan became a huge success following its 2002 London launch
on Albemarle Street, with current locations also in Moscow, Monaco, Montenegro, Berlin and
Dubai. Regularly frequented by A-list celebrities including Penelope Cruz and Nicole Kidman, the
restaurant was celebrated for its high-quality sushi, sashimi, and innovative menu of Japanese
cuisine created by Executive Head Chef Bubker (Buba) Belkhit, who will also oversee Sumosan
Courchevel.
Buba’s menu will feature signature Sumosan favourites served snow-side, including tuna and
truffle rolls, Japanese salmon rice pizza, grilled sea bass with citrus ginger sauce and Furikakecrusted
rack of lamb and mustard sauce. Whilst new, exclusive dishes will include black caviar
rice pizza and torched sushi, such as squid with calamari ink powder and unagi with unagi cotton
candy sauce - torched table-side.
The bar will provide the ideal après-ski destination, shaking up cocktails and serving a selection
of sushi until late, while the restaurant will open for dinner only.
Sumosan Courchevel’s interior, designed by Morpheus London, blends minimalist Japanese
design with nods to its Alpine location. A palette of dark woods is set against various hammered
textures to echo the design of the yoshihiro knives, with a vast marble mountain scape of
Courchevel peaks as the backdrop, mimicking the famous image of the sun setting over Mount
Fuji. Traditional kimono fabric is used for decorative cushions alongside an origami chandelier of
‘mountains and valleys’. Adding a humorous touch, the famous Sumosan Sumo appears dressed
in a variety of ski gear across the restaurant, including a sculpture to guard the restaurant doors.
The restaurant will bring an exciting new dimension to Six Senses Residences Courchevel, which
comprises 53 beautifully appointed apartments alongside a world-class Six Senses spa complete
with swimming pool, outdoor hot tub, two saunas and an extensive range of treatments to help
you relax after a hard day’s skiing. Elevating alpine living to new heights, the apartments feature
private balconies with some offering triple-aspect mountain views, bespoke wine cellars, private
sauna and hammam, open fireplaces, dedicated ski lockers, private car parking and storage
caves. As well as the spa, residents have access to 24/7 concierge, private catering and a
dedicated ski concierge located in a private chalet under the main ski lift in Courchevel 1850.
